COMPARATIVE TOXICOLOGICAL STUDIES ON MONENSIN, SALINOMYCIN AND NARASIN IN FARM ANIMALS

Together with the wide application of polyether ionophore antibiotics as coccidiostats in broiler chickens (most often), as well as growth promoters in ruminants, they create quite a lot toxicological problems in animal breeding. In scientific literature there have been described many cases of intoxication caused by them, which have resulted in enormous financial losses both in mammal breeding and poultry farming. From the conducted trials it becomes clear that the toxicological hazards caused by the application of polyether antibiotics depend on the type of the preparation, as well as on animal species, their age, sex, and the ration composition they are fed on.

NUTRITIVE EFFECT OF BULGARIAN MONENSIN, SALINOMYCIN AND NARASIN IN LAMBS FOR FATTENING

There are plenty of publications in literature about the nutritive effect of monensin in ruminants [2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9], and the mechanism of its probiotic function in the pre-rumen has been completely clarified. Significantly less in number are the studies on the stimulating effect of salinomycin. So are the studies on narasin. There are no sufficient comparative data with respect to the nutritive effect of monensin, salinomycin and narasin, as well as to sex-dependent differences.
